1. Preparing the Barrel:
- Clean the barrel thoroughly to remove any residues or contaminants.
- Drill drainage holes in the bottom of the barrel to prevent waterlogging.
- If using a plastic barrel, drill or cut evenly spaced planting holes around the barrel. The size and number of holes will depend on the size of your barrel and the mature size of the strawberry plants.
2. Lining the Barrel:
- Line the inside of the barrel with landscape fabric or burlap. This will prevent soil from washing out of the planting holes while allowing water to drain.
- Secure the fabric with zip ties if necessary.
3. Filling the Barrel:
- Place a layer of gravel or small stones at the bottom of the barrel for improved drainage.
- Fill the barrel with a high-quality potting mix, enriched with worm castings or compost.
