German Cucumber Salad

In a mixing bowl, combine the thinly sliced cucumbers (and optional red onion slices) and sprinkle with salt. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to draw out excess moisture.
In another bowl, mix together the sour cream or Greek yogurt, white vinegar, chopped fresh dill, sugar, salt, and black pepper.
After the cucumbers have rested, gently squeeze them to remove excess water and transfer them to a clean bowl.
Pour the sour cream or yogurt dressing over the cucumbers and toss until evenly coated.
Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste, if needed.
Refrigerate the salad for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
