Dad Mourns 6-Year-Old Daughter’s Tragic Badminton Racket Accident: ‘She Was a Resilient Child’

A family’s idyllic vacation turned into a nightmare when a freak accident claimed the life of their 6-year-old daughter. Lucy Morgan, a vibrant and energetic child, was struck in the head by a badminton racket while playing with her siblings, leaving her family devastated and a community mourning the loss of an innocent life.

The tragic incident occurred on June 1st, during the Morgan family’s stay at their lake cottage in Maine. What began as a beautiful morning quickly spiraled into a heart-wrenching ordeal that no parent should ever have to endure.

A Bubbly Personality Cut Short

Jesse Morgan, Lucy’s father, fondly remembers his daughter’s dynamic personality. “She was very bubbly,” he shared, “but could also be reserved at times.” Once you got to know her, however, Lucy blossomed into an outspoken and fun-loving child, a true testament to her resilient spirit.

“She was a tough kid,” Jesse added, his voice tinged with a mixture of pride and sorrow.

A Freak Accident Shatters a Family’s Joy

On that fateful day, the Morgan family was enjoying a leisurely lunch by the lake, savoring the final moments of their vacation. The children decided to play badminton in the front yard, while Jesse and his wife, Bethany, relaxed in the back. Suddenly, their tranquility was shattered by the sound of screaming.

“We went out, and we saw what had happened, which was just indescribable terror going from so quiet, so calm to an incredibly traumatic experience,” Jesse recounted, the pain evident in his words.

A Tragic Twist of Fate

According to the Maine State Police, the badminton racket’s aluminum shaft had become dislodged from the wooden handle, causing the shaft to strike Lucy in the head, piercing through her skull. Jesse’s blog post revealed the harrowing details: “She went right to the operating room where they removed part of her skull to relieve pressure and deal with her injury.”

Tragically, Lucy did not survive the injury.

A Community United in Grief

In the aftermath of this devastating loss, the Morgan family has found solace in the overwhelming support of their community. A GoFundMe campaign created on their behalf has raised over $120,000 as of Monday, June 10th, a testament to the profound impact Lucy’s life had on those around her.

Green Pond Bible Chapel, where Jesse serves as a pastor, will hold a funeral service for Lucy on June 15th, providing a space for loved ones to gather and celebrate the life of this remarkable young girl. The service will also be streamed live on the church’s website, allowing the broader community to come together in mourning and remembrance.
