Here at Delish, this classic sandwich will always be one of our all-time lunch faves: The salty, cured corned beef balances perfectly with the tart sauerkraut and mild, almost creamy melted Swiss. Plus, it all sits between two slices of toasted rye bread, one of the best sandwich breads of all time (in our humble opinion). If you’re craving this classic, skip the deli and make this homemade version—we promise, it won’t disappoint.

What’s on a classic Reuben sandwich? We loaded this Reuben up with all the essentials: toasted rye bread, corned beef, melty Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and homemade Russian dressing. If you have any leftover corned beef, this sandwich is the perfect way to use them up. No time to make corned beef? No prob—you can easily pick some up at your local deli or grocery store!

The homemade Russian dressing. One of the main stars of this classic sandwich? The Russian dressing. We included a simple, easy recipe to make it homemade, but if you’re in a pinch, store-bought will work just fine! P.S. If you do make our homemade recipe, make extra to use in our Reuben squares or Reuben bowls.

Serving ideas. We can never get enough of the classic sandwich + chips combo, but if you’re looking to take things up a notch, serve this sandwich with homemade sweet potato chips, classic potato salad, or bacon fried cabbage.
