Old Fashioned Banana Pudding

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs beaten
  • 1 dash salt
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 cups milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 Tablespoon of bourbon
  • 3 -4 ripe bananas sliced
  • Vanilla wafers
  • Whipped cream for topping

Instructions:

  • Mix sugar and eggs together.

  • Add salt, cornstarch, and milk.
  • Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly from the minute you begin to heat the mixture. Cook until thickened.
  • Remove from heat; mix in vanilla and bourbon
  • In a 9-inch square casserole dish, layer the wafers, bananas, and the pudding. You can also layer the pudding in 6 individual sized glass jars or ice cream bowls.
  • Top with whipped cream.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 5 ounce can evaporated milk
  • 7 oz. jar marshmallow creme
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions:

  • Butter an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  • Place butter, chocolate chips and vanilla in a mixing bowl. Set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, milk and marshmallow creme.
  • Bring to a boil, stirring frequently. Reduce heat to low and cook about 6 minutes stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
  • Pour marshmallow mixture over contents of mixing bowl. Beat entire mixture until it thickens and loses its gloss.
  • Quickly fold in nuts and pour into a buttered dish.
  • Refrigerate several hours until firm.

  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 2/3 cup very warm water
  • 5 tablespoons neutral flavored oil, melted shortening, melted lard or melted butter

  1. Add the salt to the warm water and stir together until the salt has dissolved.

It is so incredibly easy to make homemade caramel sauce, and you can store it in the fridge for weeks to use in lots of different ways (see my ideas below).
This caramel sauce is unique in that it uses brown sugar instead of granulated sugar. Doing so yields a richer flavor and cuts down on the cook time.
