The Perfect Chocolate Gravy and Biscuits

Biscuits:

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the milk and stir until just combined. Avoid overmixing to maintain the flakiness of the biscuits.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness.
  6. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out rounds and place them on a baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown.

Chocolate Gravy:

  1. In a medium-sized saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, and sugar.
  2. Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and continue to whisk until the mixture thickens to a gravy-like consistency. This usually takes about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract until the butter is fully melted.
