Don’t throw away old t-shirts

1. Start by selecting your t-shirts. Choose a variety of colors and patterns for visual interest, or stick to a specific color scheme to match your decor.
2. Using scissors, cut the t-shirts into your desired shapes, such as squares or rectangles. A popular size for patches is between 12×12 inches to 15×15 inches.
3. Arrange the cut pieces on a flat surface, playing with the layout until you achieve an aesthetically pleasing design.
4. If you’ve opted to use interfacing, cut it slightly smaller than your t-shirt pieces and iron it onto the back of each for more rigidity.
5. Once satisfied with your layout, use fabric chalk to mark where each piece will connect.
6. Pin the pieces together, right sides facing each other, and sew with a ½-inch seam allowance.
7. Continue stitching pieces together in rows, and then sew the rows to each other, ensuring that the edges are aligned.
8. If you choose to add backing fabric, cut it to size, place it right side facing the back of the tapestry, pin in place, and stitch, leaving an opening for turning. Turn the tapestry right side out and sew the opening closed.
9. Iron the tapestry flat, paying special attention to the seams so they lie flat.
