INSTRUCTIONS:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- Prepare the Cake Batter:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, and salt until well combined.
- In a saucepan, combine the butter, water, and cocoa powder. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- Once the mixture comes to a boil, remove it from the heat and pour it over the dry ingredients in the mixing bowl. Stir until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the lightly beaten eggs, buttermilk, baking soda, and vanilla extract. Gradually add this mixture to the chocolate batter, stirring until well combined and smooth.
- Bake the Cake:
- Pour the cake batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool slightly while you prepare the frosting.
- Make the Frosting:
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the milk and cocoa powder, whisking until smooth.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and gradually stir in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until the frosting is thick and smooth.
- Fold in the chopped pecans until evenly distributed throughout the frosting.
- Frost the Cake:
- Once the cake has cooled slightly, pour the warm frosting over the top, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
- Allow the frosting to set for a few minutes before drizzling the caramel sauce over the top of the cake.
- Sprinkle the chopped pecans over the caramel sauce, evenly distributing them across the surface of the cake.
- Serve and Enjoy:
- Slice the Texas Turtle Sheet Cake into squares and serve it warm or at room temperature.
- This indulgent dessert is perfect for any occasion, whether it’s a family gathering, potluck, or special celebration.
